Вешенка - гриб довольно крупный, шляпка серого или серовато-коричневого цвета от 5 до 20 сантиметров в диаметре. Ножка очень плотная и из-за жесткости в пищу не употребляется. Растет этот гриб букетом, в котором иногда насчитывается до 30 грибов общим весом 2-3 килограмма. Для выращивания надо заготовить отрезки стволов и сучьев деревьев лиственных пород диаметром не менее 15 сантиметров, длиной 25-30 сантиметров. Более тонкие отрезки дают меньший урожай. Эти грибы развиваются во влажной среде, и отрезки надо на 1-2 дня погрузить в воду.
